 That being said, we want to work with tutors who truly care about offering a great service - which is why we use a powerful algorithm to rate each tutor, promoting those tutors with the best scores by putting them at the top of the search results, and removing those we don’t feel meet our high standards.
 
 Amongst other things, we take into account:

• how quickly tutors reply to messages 
• how many students choose to book with them
• how many repeat clients they secure and the number of lessons they have together
• the reviews students leave on their lessons
• the quality of each tutor’s profile
• whether they have a background check
• their professionalism in working with us at Tutordel

We continue to work with tutors and students, even as they’re learning together, doing all we can to help learners achieve their goals. This gives us a good insight into how tutors operate and who will offer a great service.

At Tutordel, we seek to help students make an informed choice when deciding who to learn with, as opposed to making that choice for them. That being said, we are protective about who we allow to join and work through our platform. 

Every tutor must complete a full profile - otherwise, students cannot make the informed choice we seek to allow. This includes adding details of their past experience, a profile photo, a tagline, and details of their suitability to tutor.
 
 If we deem that the experience listed does not point towards an ability to deliver expert, professional services, or that the prices listed will not be in line with our students’ expectations, we will not allow a tutor to use the platform.

Each new tutor must also:

• Upload a copy of their photographic ID (driving license or passport), which is automatically verified by our third-party payment provider, Stripe.
• Secure two references from individuals who vouch for their suitability to tutor.*

Once a tutor has completed their profile, we manually review each profile and select the best ones to interview.
 

Tutors may also upload an optional background check.

Your bio is a really important part of your Tutordel profile. It helps potential customers to gauge your teaching style, your areas of expertise, and any other additional qualifications or skills that you possess. We advise it be written in a manner that is both friendly and professional and it is a good idea to include: 

1. Academic background: Where and what do you study and what qualifications you have obtained
2. Tutoring experience: You can also include any other experience that you think is relevant; valid experience comes in a range of different forms! 
3. Teaching style: How you conduct your lessons, any specific methods of teaching that you use, etc.
4. A bit about yourself and your interests: Anything else about you that you think is relevant or interesting. It is also a good idea to include why you want to become/became a tutor and what you think sets you apart from the crowd!
5. A good video: We recommend all tutors do a video. It's a quick and easy way to sell yourself and your services. 

Tutordel offers a comprehensive range of subjects at all levels, through Primary, Secondary, A Level, and beyond. When setting up your profile, you can select any subjects that you wish to teach. It is vital that you can clearly demonstrate that you have the relevant qualifications, experience, and knowledge needed to tutor these subjects. 

Tutors who specialize in one or two subjects are generally seen as more reliable than tutors who have selected a high number of subjects to tutor. 

Your tutor profile is your space to really sell yourself to potential students! We want to make sure that you have the best chance of being selected by our clients. Your profile headshot is the first impression our clients will have of you and a professional photo makes all the difference. 

Your photo should:

1. Be taken by another person (no selfies!) 
2. Be in landscape orientation, with your head and shoulders visible in the frame
3. Be a high-quality photo with no other people in the background. Try to stand against a light background. 
4. Look professional!

If you have trouble verifying your email address, click on the "resend email verification” button. A new email will arrive in your inbox within 10 minutes (remember to check your junk mail). Online tuition: 

Online lessons take place in our online classroom, using the interactive whiteboard. You can deliver your lessons from anywhere as long as you have a computer, lesson materials, and a strong internet connection. However, we do expect our tutors to choose appropriate locations that are quiet so the online lesson will not be interrupted. The Whiteboard is best used on Chrome and features include a whiteboard, audio, video, and file sharing.

In-person tuition: 

You will only be visible to clients in the areas that you have selected in your ‘Coverage Section’. Most tutors will travel to their client, but feel free to suggest a local library or coffee shop if you and your student are happy with that arrangement. Travel costs are not covered separately by the client or Tutordel so be mindful of travel expenses when setting your hourly rate.

Yes, you can change your hourly rate at any time. If you are relatively new to tutoring (1-3 years of experience), we recommend starting at a lower hourly rate and increase this over time as you gain experience and good reviews. 

Please note if you do change your hourly rate, this will affect existing customers, so they will be charged more! This usually results in customers stopping tutoring, so please consider this before you change your price. 

You can, however, keep your current rates for learners before changing prices. Simply go to "My Learners” in your tutor account and toggle the lock icon beside their names. Key in the rates you would like to charge the learner to lock in the prices. Click the lock icon again if you wish to unlock

Alternatively, you can always contact a member of our educational team and we will help you find your perfect tutor free of charge. Tutordel represents the gold standard of tutors with a stringent vetting system to ensure the quality of our educational support. All of our academic tutors are educated to at least degree-level and have demonstrable teaching experience in order to ensure that they can deliver top-quality tuition to our students. Many of our tutors are current or former teachers, university lecturers, and professors. We also require all of our in-person tutors to have a valid DBS check.

We allow our tutors to set their hourly rates based on their relevant experience, qualifications, and student reviews. We provide our tutors with support and guidelines to help them choose a rate that is appropriate and we ensure all tutors meet our industry-leading standards before we accept them to our platform. 

We hope that the variety of prices means that a greater number of students are able to find the perfect tutor to meet their needs and budgets. If you are struggling to find the right tutor, remember that you can utilize the price filter, or contact us for some extra help. Our price range from $10-$100 per hour, depending on the tutor's experience and your requirements. 

All payments are made securely through PayPal, PayStack or Stripe. Our online payment system. Once you are happy to go ahead with a tuition session, you just need to confirm the lesson booking and enter your card details. These details will then be added to your account so you will not need to enter them again. Once you have had the lesson, payment will leave your account automatically. It’s against our terms to pay the tutor directly.
